Change happens when the Spirit of God is present. Now, more than ever, this nation needs Latino/Hispanic Spirit-filled leaders of a sound conviction and strong moral compass helping to shape programs and policies in neighborhood organizations, city and state committees, and the halls of Congress. This scholarship was created with the intention of inspiring Latino/Hispanic Spirit-filled students to engage (to be present) in civic organizations and institutions and to lead change locally, statewide, or on a national platform.
Recipients of this scholarship model the character and actions of great historical figures such as the integrity and foresight of Joseph when he advised rulers as a servant and as a prince, the courage and influence of Moses when he demanded of pharaoh freedom for the oppressed, the humility and understanding of Esther when she accepted her role as a mediator between her people and the king, the conviction and respect of Daniel when he demonstrated unwavering commitment to a higher law in the presence of Babylonian rulers, and the strength and faith of David when he led his nation as a shepherd, general, and king.
